Workshops

Bookbinding workshops are the best way to learn the art of hand made books. From the brief history of hand bookbinding to the hands on experience, the workshop results in just few hours not only in the theoretical knowledge of hand bookbinding but also in the final product, that of a hand bound notebook, created by each participant.

Depending on the type of binding, workshops can vary in duration from 3 to 6 hours. For example the simplest variation, that of the single section, soft cover handbook can be completed within 2 to 3 hours. On the other hand, any kind of multiple section binding can take around 6 hours, from start to finish. In addition, workshops featuring multiple section binding require more time and can be achieved in a two day workshop.

During the workshop you will learn how to make your own notebook from scratch and after completion you will have your own notebook. At the beginning, an introduction of the elements of the book, materials, tools and equipment will be presented, followed by the bookbinding steps. These steps will be presented in details making the hands on process more accessible to the first time bookbinder. A handout with the basic information for future reference will be available to every participant.

Bookbinding workshops are available on demand. Different types of bookbinding will be presented and the participants will be able to construct and finish their own notebook within the duration of the workshop. The supplies and equipment will be provided. However, if you have your own equipment or materials you would like to use, you are welcome to do so.

Workshops for schools pupils can also be arranged. According to the age of the pupils they can vary from an actual hands on workshop to a more demonstrative one for younger ages.
